This year’s season’s greetings come with a warning; 2024 is projected to be the first year to surpass the global warming limit of 1.5°C, highlighting the urgent need for climate action.
In 1984, Band Aid referred to the Christmas bells in Africa as ‘the clanging chimes of doom.’ Now, 40 years later, those bells ring out a call for action on a new crisis. Recent destructive storms have shown us the profound impact of climate change, reminding us of the necessity to address global warming.
The holiday season, whilst great fun, is also one of the most excessive and wasteful times of the year, with 500 tonnes of Christmas lights and £42 million worth of unwanted presents going to landfill in the UK alone.
Our warmest wish this year is for everyone to think about the impact of their choices this Christmas. Instead of roasting your chestnuts over a fossil-fuelled fire, we hope you embrace alternative energy to start 2025 with a positive change.
This year, we are supporting Coolearth.org, an organisation that funds indigenous people and communities to help protect rainforests. Join us by donating in December, and the ‘Friends of Cool Earth’ will double your contribution.
Together, we can design a brighter future.
